Diversity and inclusion dynamics are the positive or negative reactions that occur when dimensions of diversity, such as culture, experience, and expectations, come together. This course teaches fundamental diversity & inclusion concepts using the highly acclaimed M.E.E.T. model.

Transgender is a term used to describe people whose gender identity differs from the sex marked on their birth certificate. Gender identity is a person's internal, personal sense of being a man or a woman. For transgender people, the sex they were assigned at birth and their own internal gender identity do not match.

And, together, they fill in the holes in the story with a little bit of fact – and a lot of guesswork or subtle innuendo.

Negative bias refers to the persistent, harmful and unequal treatment of someone based solely on some characteristic they possess or their apparent membership in or identification with a particular group.

Getting to know your patients, including aspects of their sexual and gender identity, behavior, and desires is key to providing quality care. It is important that you respect a person’s privacy and how much of their private life and decision to transition they want to share with others.

Many organizations want and need people who speak different languages. Typically, there are no organization requirements that only English can be spoken at work. This course addresses concerns and the ability to be inclusive while speaking a foreign language in front of others.

Since there is no way we can always know what may trigger a “diversity moment,” any one of us may encounter one at any time. When that happens, everyone can take responsibility for addressing the situation and maintaining the work relationship.
